about

GB/US : These "old tapes" of Sega Sidibe were recorded in the early 90's and were not initially intended to be published, but their musical quality makes them definitely qualify.

The ensemble tracks capture glimpses of fun time with fellow musicians in Bamako. And what fellows !... Sega plays here with his "dream team" of the time, the musicians who accompanied him for weddings and other events: his cousin Satigi on djembe and Adama 'Gongoni' on dunun. Their complicity simply shines.

After the Independence of Mali, in the 60's, as the capital city was growing bigger and bigger, there could be so many events at the same time that drummers sometimes had to split and play alone : a real test as the rhythm should be identifiable all the time while marking the dance steps, as Sega demonstrates brilliantly in the solo tracks.
Listen to the essence of his art : "Sega yεrε", Sega himself...

All proceeds from this album will benefit Sega Sidibe's family.
